23/05/2007 - Changes coming to the ILM Management VRQs (Vocationally Related Qualifications)

From September 01, 2007, the ILM are making available a new range of Vocationally Related Qualifications (VRQs) for Generic Management Skills. These new qualifications are Unit Based and will replace the existing range of ILM VRQ Management Certificates and Diplomas.

The existing range includes: Introductory and Full Certificates in Team Leading at Level 2, Introductory and Full Certificates in First Line Management at Level 3 and the Introductory and Full Diplomas in Management at Level 5.

The new suite of Management VRQs will be based on Awards, Certificates and Diplomas at Levels 2 through to 7.

All registrations on the current group of Management VRQs will cease on August 31, 2007, however, all candidates will still have the full registration period in which to complete their qualification.

This new suite of qualifications has been designed in a Unit-Based format to satisfy the ILM's customer preferences and in readiness for the developing UK and European credit frameworks. The content is specified in Units, each of which has a title, a level, an ILM Notional Credit Rating (see note 1 below) and a series of learning outcomes and associated assessment criteria.

The new suite of qualifications has also been designed in a ‘nested’ format, thus enabling learners to carry forward their achievements on an Award into either a Certificate or Diploma at the same. Similarly, achievements on a Certificate programme can be carried forward to a Diploma at the same level.

We, The Gill Payne Partnership Ltd, are working on additional information to explain the new suite of qualifications and will post this here shortly. However, to provide you with some information to work with, we have uploaded an Overview of the New Unit Based Management VRQs here.

Notes:

1. All references to credit ratings refer to an ILM notional credit rating, pending the introduction of the English Qualification and Credit Framework which will ratify/revise these ratings.
